Job Description

Outstanding opportunity to join Australia’s largest media organisation, driving production within the Bulletin newsroom

Who we are
We are proud of our heritage of connecting communities to the stories that matter. We are the voice of Townsville, a champion for the battlers of Australia. We’re for news, sport, lifestyle and more: our newspapers, magazines and websites influence 16 million people each month, a larger audience than any other media business in Australia.

Our journalists have the drive to make a difference, a passion to find the truth, and a hunger to break the story first. With 9.4 million Australians reading at least one of our News Corp print publications per week, our platform to break compelling stories is unmatched.

Who you are
Reporting to the Editor, the successful candidate will edit content for print and digital platforms while driving workflow. You will be accountable for efficient delivery of the highest quality content across print and digital platforms, engaging local audiences while being aligned with commercial goals and organisational strategy.

The Deputy Editor is tasked with sub-editing processes and prepares and publishes content across the Methode system. You will be required to apply editorial judgement to ensure print and digital platforms consist of energetic and captivating stories along with curating and enhancing content by writing compelling headlines.

To be successful in this role you will have a passion for the city of Townsville and its community.  Astute and discerning, you will take pride in creating stories that captivate consumers and will be known for the fine quality of your work. You will have demonstrated reporting, editing and production skills and the ability to think visually and digitally with every story.  Experience in features is highly desirable and strong copy-editing skills are a must.

You will possess the natural knack to see a great line in a story and know instantly that it will be a success. With an eye for detail, you work with a level of accuracy that is second-to-none in a high-intensity environment with tight deadlines. You will have demonstrated commercial acumen and have the ability to form strong relationships with key stakeholders. You must be digitally savvy and possess demonstrated experience on multiple platforms.

You will be a great people person who is passionate about mentoring and inspiring content producers to do their best work. You’ll help foster a positive and energetic newsroom culture and, of course, lead the charge and take responsibility for editorial content in the absence of the editor.
