This is a diverse and challenging role, responsible for managing the development of an existing client base and working with the advertising sales team to drive sales. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team made up of three media sales people.  Coaching, mentoring, actively growing your team’s skill set and achieving monthly KPI’s and budget targets will be a core part of this role.  Attending functions, supporting charities and events – being a strong presence within the local community, will also be a key factor within this position.

The ideal applicant for this role should possess the following skills & attributes:

  • A strong background in sales
  • Ability to work across platforms; features, telesales, retail, run of press & account management
  • Proven ability to achieve budget requirements
  • Previous skills managing a small, diverse team would be an advantage
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines in a pressure filled environment
  • Ability to multi task, prioritise and manage time effectively
  • Drive and passion to succeed
  • Be a confident public speaker

Clark promoted to Group Sports Editor

One of our most senior and experienced journalists, Gordon Clark, has been appointed to the new role of Group Sports Editor, based in Centro. Gordon will drive and coordinate sport coverage across the group and will be pivotal to group sport coverage and the editing of sport pages within Centro under the new APN Newsdesk group structure.  Gordon brings a wealth of experience and sporting knowledge to the position. He is a former Chief-of-Staff, Sports Editor and Business Editor of the Sunshine Coast Daily. Previously he worked for the NT News in Darwin as the senior AFL and rugby league writer, racing editor and general sports reporter.

Cairney new Editor in Grafton

Jenna Cairney has been appointed Editor of the Daily Examiner in Grafton. Jenna has been with APN since 2009 at our Warwick and Stanthorpe operations, most recently as Chief-of-Staff of the Warwick Daily News. Previously she worked in Scotland as a reporter for The Courier, The Evening Telegraph and The Sunday Post publications. She has covered music and the arts for Livingson Music Magazine in Scotland and the North Texas Daily in the city of Denton in the United States. Jenna is one of our rising stars and will bring considerable passion and energy to the Grafton role when she joins the team from April 16. As previous announced, current Daily Examiner Editor David Bancroft is taking up the new role of Group Editor for our Rural Weekly products.

Kippen to become National and Regional Editor

Former Centro Managing Editor Andy Kippen has been appointed to the role of National and Regional Editor (Centro).

This position will be responsible for coordinating group pages under the new APN Newsdesk structure and ensuring that we maximise cross-group use of some of the great stories produced by our newsrooms. Andy was the Sunshine Coast Newspaper Company’s Editorial Manager prior to his move to Centro and served in senior APN Editorial roles over many years at Maroochydore and earlier at the Queensland Times in Ipswich.
